Spring Mantle 2014

I finally arrived at a Spring look for my mantle I was happy with.  I made a mess and rejected a whole pile of cool stuff I've used in the past like an old window, an old mirror, milk glass, plates, wood boxes, and more.  I used some found treasures, thrift store loot, and printed graphics and came up with this:

The iron gate and the terra cotta pots were found in the attic and under the house when we moved in.  Now hold that thought if you think we are lucky to find a few treasures, we bought a house with 8 different wallpapers, 4 different colored toilets, and 10 different flooring materials- this house owed us!! Ha!

The greenery is a combo of real and artificial, can you tell
which is which?

 I printed my cute graphics from the Graphics Fairy on plain paper and used magnets to stick them on the gate.

Market Ready #6

I love the shape and size of this pedestal bowl.  I thought of painting it but I'll leave that up to the buyer.

Nice carved book holder

 This rustic wood box holds two jars perfectly, imagine how perfect it would look with fresh flowers.

This planter is one of those items that I will use for seasonal decorating and changing things up here at home if it doesn't sell.

 I didn't touch them, the patina was perfect!

 I love old imperfect china and dishes.

 These carvings were covered in so much dust you couldn't tell what it was!  Cleaning the things I find is always a nasty job.

 I love this stack of old books, I'm sure I could use these in my house too.  The white pitcher is mine, a cheap find.

See you soon!

Waiting for Spring

I have yet to rant and rave over a long cold winter.  I do not want to live in a climate that is endless summer. I can not imagine a world without spring. Spring is almost here!  I love how it can arrive little by little each day.  The grass is greening up in just the last 2 days  here.  I saw white tiny flowers emerge on an unknown shrub just this morning.  I see the dogwood trees loaded with tight little buds that will be beautiful flowers.  It will come soon and it will go quickly.  Open your eyes to the change of the season and marvel how overnight a tree can go from its barren winter look to a showy pink fuzz ball!

Here are some pictures of past projects that whisper
or shout spring to me.

 Milk glass and pretty spring flowers are a match made in heaven!

For this project, that I envisioned would be great in a nursery,  I used scrapbook paper as the background and painted thrift store bunnies and frames.

I painted some thrift sore candlesticks white and the birdhouses were given a spring color for a very cheap spring look.

Spring, summer, who cares?  It is just boring old dated, worn out wood pieces brought to life.

Enjoy the emergence of the
world that has been resting.

Yesterday the twig was brown and bare;
To-day the glint of green is there;
Tomorrow will be leaflets spare;
I know no thing so wondrous fair,
No miracle so strangely rare.
I wonder what will next be there!
~L.H. Bailey

Everything is blooming most recklessly; if it were voices instead of colors, there would be an unbelievable shrieking into the heart of the night.

Stylish, Vintage File Storage

I love old trunks and suitcases for their look and also for what you can cram in them to store.  I needed a place to store files since we once had a 4 drawer filing cabinet full of stuff and I whittled down to less than one drawer!! The trunk seen here on the bottom was the perfect solution.

  I took a hanging file frame that can be found anyewhere office supplies are sold and just set in in there and it worked!  I'll take this any day over a file cabinet, rolling filing cart, file box, or any other filing system I can think of.

I hope you find one you can use if you like this idea.
